In April, the Department of Education announced they would move the PSLF program from MOHELA to StudentAid.gov. As part of this transition, there will be a temporary pause on the processing of PSLF forms. Please read below for more information.
Starting on May 1, the Department of Education will begin moving the PSLF program from MOHELA to Student Aid.gov. In the past, MOHELA was the only servicer that managed PSLF. Once this transition is complete, PSLF will be available across all servicers and will be managed on StudentAid.gov.
In order to move the PSLF program to StudentAid.gov, there will be a temporary pause on the processing of PSLF forms. Beginning May 1 and through July, no PSLF forms will be processed. Forms can still be submitted during this time, but no receipt notifications or updates will be provided.
Starting May 1, Savi will temporarily hold any forms you submit until we confirm the new location to submit them. You may see an application status that says "Under Review with Savi". This simply means we're holding on to your form, and it will update once we submit it to the new destination with StudentAid.
During the pause, you will no longer be able to access your PSLF progress, certified employment, or payment counts on MOHELA’s borrower portal. If you want to save screenshots and correspondence for your personal records, we recommend accessing the portal by April 30, 2024. Your information is moving to StudentAid.gov and will be available after the processing pause ends in July.
There will also be no updates to PSLF counts during this transition. Once processing resumes, you will have access to a new PSLF dashboard on StudentAid.gov, where you can see detailed payment counts and approved employers.
Savi is monitoring the situation and will provide more information as it’s available. You can learn more here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I submit a PSLF form during the pause?
Yes, you can still submit your PSLF form during this time. However, it will be held until processing resumes after July. You can expect it to take longer than normal to receive your results.
My ECF application status in my Savi account says "Under Review with Savi." What does this mean?
We are awaiting the new destination to submit ECFs with the Department of Education. Once we have that, your ECF will be automatically submitted for you and your status will be updated!
Can I see my PSLF progress during the pause?
PSLF information will temporarily be unavailable during this time. You won’t be able to see submitted forms, payment counts, or approved employers on your MOHELA account. Once processing resumes, all of this information will be available on StudentAid.gov.
Will MOHELA still manage PSLF?
Once processing resumes, StudentAid.gov will be the new manager of the PSLF program. This means PSLF will now be available across all servicers, and in the future PSLF forms will be sent to StudentAid.gov instead of MOHELA.
What happens if I reach 120 payments during the pause?
If you complete 120 qualifying payments during the pause, any additional payments you make will be refunded or applied to your other federal student loans that have outstanding balances, after the transition is complete and processing resumes. Your loans will be forgiven by your servicer once your PSLF form is processed. If you would like to request a forbearance because you believe you have reached forgiveness (or will reach it during the processing pause) and have met the requirement for 120 qualifying payments, you can contact your servicer directly with this request.
How is Savi handling this processing pause?
Savi is monitoring the situation closely and will notify you of any major updates. We’ll continue submitting forms once we know what the new submission process is like, and your Savi account will provide you with detailed information about your application statuses.
