IDR (Income Driven Repayment) Issues
My servicer said that they received my IDR application but that it was unclear if I wanted to recalculated my monthly payment.
When you receive this letter, this means that you aren't due to recertify your income yet for your repayment plan. When enrolled in an IDR plan, you need to submit documentation every 12 months so your loan servicer can update your monthly payment if necessary. Recertifying too early can result in a denial.
Your loan servicer will notify you once it's time to recertify your income. Once they notify you, feel free to reach out to us and we'll help you submit a new recertification application. There's no action needed from you at this time.
My loan servicer has still not processed my application
As of February 27th, 2025, The Department of Education has temporarily removed the option to enroll in an Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) Plan, or recertify their current plan, from the StudentAid.gov website. Because of this, borrowers applying for an IDR should expect significantly longer processing times.
My loan servicer miscalculated my monthly payment, should I call them?
We definitely recommend reaching out to your Savi support team first before you call, as loan servicer wait times are currently around 2 hours. Our team can review any possible issues with your application and save you time from not waiting on hold with your loan servicer.
My loan servicer sent me a letter saying that my payments are going to increase soon, I can't afford that, what can I do?
Loan servicers have been sending out correspondence showing what your payment will be under the IDR plan we submitted for you and then what your payment would be on the Standard plan if you do not recertify your income in time. As long as you certify your income on time each year, you will remain in an IDR plan and will not have to make that Standard plan payment.
ECF (Employment Certification Form) Issues
FSA says I have zero qualifying payments after I consolidated!
If you consolidated your loans before July 2024, you will receive credit for past payments due to the recent Account Adjustment.
If you consolidated FFEL or Perkins loans after July 2024, your payments will reset and you will not receive credit for previous payments.
If you consolidated Parent PLUS loans after July 2024, you will receive a weighted average of payments made before consolidation. You can read more about this here: https://bysavi.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/31467536459027-Consolidation-and-It-s-Effects-on-PSLF-and-IDR-Forgiveness-Progress
FSA says I stopped working at my current job, how do I correct this?
Employment is only certified up to the date your Employment Certification Form is signed, and you need to submit a new form to prove you kept working in public service. Savi recommends you submit these forms every 12 months.
Consolidation Issues
It’s been over 45 days since I submitted my consolidation application on Student Aid, what’s happening with my loans?
We have seen that lately it is taking closer to 8-10 weeks for some consolidation applications to process, especially if your loans are coming from Navient or AES. As long as your Student Aid dashboard still shows that your consolidation application is in process, they are working on it and it will still be fully reviewed under the upcoming Account Adjustment.
I selected MOHELA or EdFinancial as my loan servicer, but my loans are now with Aidvantage!
Aidvantage is the loan servicer who processes the applications for all loan servicers, this is a normal step in the process. Once they finish processing your application, you will see your loans transfer over to your new loan servicer.
