IDR (Income Driven Repayment) Issues
My servicer said that they received my IDR application but that it was unclear if I wanted to recalculated my monthly payment.
When you receive this letter, this means that you aren't due to recertify your income yet for your repayment plan. When enrolled in an IDR plan, you need to submit documentation every 12 months so your loan servicer can update your monthly payment if necessary. Recertifying too early can result in a denial.
Your loan servicer will notify you once it's time to recertify your income. Once they notify you, feel free to reach out to us and we'll help you submit a new recertification application. There's no action needed from you at this time.
My loan servicer has still not processed my application
Currently it is taking loan servicers 6-8 weeks to process repayment plan applications. Loan servicers are placing borrowers in administrative forbearance while they process the applications. This administration will count towards forgiveness
My loan servicer miscalculated my monthly payment, should I call them?
We definitely recommend reaching out to your Savi support team first before you call, as loan servicer wait times are currently around 2 hours. Our team can review any possible issues with your application and save you time from not waiting on hold with your loan servicer.
My Nelnet loans moved over to Sloan Servicing, how do I sync those to my Savi account?
We have noticed that Plaid is currently not working with Sloan Servicing. In order to assist you as soon as possible, we ask that you sync your loans using your data file. Below are instructions on how to obtain and upload your data file:
1. Log into your account at https://studentaid.gov/
2. In the right hand corner beneath your name, use the down arrow to access your Dashboard.
3. On your dashboard, select “View Details” in the right hand corner of the “My Aid” section.
4. On the right hand side, select “Download My Aid Data”.
5. Select “Continue” to download your Student Loan Data to your computer
6. This file will download as a TXT file named: MyStudentData.txt
7. Upload the file in the loan sync section of the application.
8. If you have consolidated loans that include Parent PLUS loans (either Direct or FFEL) please click on the pencil icon next to the loan and answer yes to the question asking if they include these types of loans. If you have questions if your loans include these types of loans or have any issues figuring out how to answer this question, please let me know and I would be happy to help further.
This will sync all of your loans to the Savi tool and allow you to move forward with your application. For more information, click here to watch a video that walks you through syncing loans via a data file in our help center.
My loan servicer said my recertification date has changed and is less than 12 months since I last recertified.
Loan servicers were telling customers that they had a March or April recertification date when they last certified October 2023. This date has since moved to September 2024 for borrowers. You should see an update about this on your loan servicer’s website.
ECF (Employment Certification Form) Issues
MOHELA says I have zero qualifying payments after I consolidated!
You’ve received credit for all the payments since you consolidated. In the coming months, the Department of Education will be implementing the Account Adjustment that will give you credit for past payments from before you consolidated. You will see these updates occur automatically on your MOHELA account, crediting past payments towards PSLF. We expect this Account Adjustment to go into effect this July. You can read more about the Account Adjustment here.
MOHELA says I stopped working at my current job, how do I correct this?
Employment is only certified up to the date your Employment Certification Form is signed, and you need to submit a new form to prove you kept working in public service. Savi recommends you submit these forms every 12 months.
Consolidation Issues
It’s been over 45 days since I submitted my consolidation application on Student Aid, what’s happening with my loans?
We have seen that lately it is taking closer to 8-10 weeks for some consolidation applications to process, especially if your loans are coming from Navient or AES. As long as your Student Aid dashboard still shows that your consolidation application is in process, they are working on it and it will still be fully reviewed under the upcoming Account Adjustment.
I selected MOHELA as my loan servicer, but my loans are now with Aidvantage!
Aidvantage is the loan servicer who processes the applications for MOHELA, this is a normal step in the process. Once they finish processing your application, you will see your loans transfer over to MOHELA.
